How the sports words fit each size
67 of the 68 sports words fit the 11 × 11 easy grid. CHAMPIONSHIP is too long for it, so it only turns up on the 15 × 15 medium and 19 × 19 hard grids.
24 words have five letters or fewer, BAT, LAP and NET among them, and those are the first ones young solvers spot. The longest, CHAMPIONSHIP, COMPETITION and QUARTERBACK, are the last to be found.
A way to use the sports word search
On a rainy-day PE period, print one grid, photocopy it, and give every team the same sheet. The first team to find every word picks the next game.
