How does this calculator estimate sales from BSR?

Amazon does not publish a formula. The calculator uses a log-log interpolation across reference points calibrated from publicly reported author sales (Kindlepreneur, Publisher Rocket, Self Publishing Titans). Each market — Kindle, Print, Audible — has its own curve.

It's a ±50% ballpark. Real sales react to KU page reads (Kindle), free promo downloads, and category competition. Mid-range BSRs (1,000–100,000) are usually the most reliable.

My BSR is 250,000 — is that bad?

Not necessarily. The Kindle store has millions of books. BSR 250,000 typically equals 1–3 sales/day, which is normal for niche titles. The real question is whether revenue covers ads and production cost.

Why does Print BSR give different numbers than Kindle BSR?

Print and Kindle stores have different sales volumes per rank. The calculator picks the right curve based on the format you select.

Can I use this for international marketplaces?

The curves are calibrated for the US store (.com / Kindle US / Audible US). Other marketplaces have smaller volumes — divide US estimates by 3-5× as a rough heuristic for UK/DE/JP.
